The PGA TOUR and Grupo Puntacana have announced a multi-year extension of the Corales Puntacana Championship, securing the Dominican Republic’s premier golf event through 2027.
Extension Solidifies Dominican Republic’s Role in Pro Golf
The tournament, hosted at the scenic Corales Golf Course in Punta Cana, is the only official PGA TOUR event held in the Dominican Republic. The 2025 edition tees off Thursday, April 17, offering 300 FedExCup points to the winner and live coverage on Golf Channel and the TOUR’s World Feed.
“We are pleased to renew our relationship with Grupo Puntacana,” said Tyler Dennis, PGA TOUR Chief Competitions Officer. “The tournament continues to play a vital role in local development while sharing the energy of PGA TOUR golf with fans worldwide.”
Local Impact Through Grupo Puntacana Foundation
Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Grupo Puntacana Foundation, which supports health, education, and environmental programs across the Punta Cana region. Since its founding, the Foundation has provided medical care to more than 150,000 residents and educated over 8,000 students and technicians.
Frank Elías Rainieri, CEO of Grupo Puntacana, emphasized the tournament’s cultural and economic importance. “The Corales Puntacana Championship is more than a sporting event—it’s a symbol of national pride and global visibility,” Rainieri said.
A Course Built for Champions
The Corales Golf Course, designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2010, features six holes along the Caribbean Sea, culminating in the dramatic “Devil’s Elbow” finishing stretch. Last year, Billy Horschel shot a final-round 63 to claim his eighth career PGA TOUR win at the event.
Dahmen’s Collapse Opens Door for Higgo Victory
Joel Dahmen, the 2021 Corales Puntacana champion, was in position to reclaim the title heading into the final round of the 2025 event. Holding a three-shot lead after 54 holes, Dahmen faltered on Sunday with a closing 76—bogeying each of the final three holes.
His missed 3-foot par putt on 17 and bogey on 18 left the door open for Garrick Higgo, who birdied the final hole to win by one stroke. The loss was a crushing blow for Dahmen, who described the finish as “inexcusable” and admitted he was still in shock.
“I don’t deserve to win it,” he said post-round. “Bogeying the last three is inexcusable.”
Despite the heartbreak, Dahmen’s week had bright spots. He jumped to No. 69 in the FedExCup standings and remains in solid position to retain his TOUR card for 2026. Higgo’s win, meanwhile, secures him full PGA TOUR status through 2027—an enormous leap after beginning the season with limited eligibility.
